Amending Tradition
It has been a tradition to end our classes standing in a circle and holding hands with the left palm up right palm down, the gesture of giving and receiving. This is how classes ended when I attended weekly classes, and I chose to keep that tradition alive.
Coming together again after lockdown, the gesture of holding hands had to be reconsidered. And just like that, a tradition that has served us well had to be amended.
We now stay seated on our mats, and wrap ourselves in a self-hug, and then share the hugs.
Already a new tradition is developing. We now give ourselves a positive self-message as we hold the hug. We still share the hugs, but the message is purely for the self.
