Push & Pull
The resistance moves of push and pull regularly appear in our practice sessions. We start to feel the difference, hands lightly touching in anjali mudra or pressing together enough to feel the press, or really pushing against a block. Likewise, pull makes itself known when we use a belt or stretchy band.
Last week we explored the pose of Trikonasana. The question being… how do you load a pose when you can’t use props. Where is the push, the pull, the lift? Is there any other experience coming from the felt sense.
Taking those qualities to a deeper level we begin to feel the effects of push-pull between the self and the pose. Are you fighting the pose or making friends with it.
If you fight, you will become rigid and lock up – lock up your breath and therefore your energy. If you make friends with the pose – if you invite it into your body you will find your harmony, and breathe easy.
So much push and pull – rather like life.
