The self care side of Yoga

Classes this week have included a timely reminder of Self Care.. As a busy life increases in revolutions (running around in circles) it becomes so important to administer self care in whatever form the self requires.

Discussion began two weeks ago. Now it is time to deepen the practice – yes self care requires practice too.

To know your own care requirements, you need to connect with and to yourself.

Ways to do that are:

  • Daily Check in (or more than once a day)
  • Mind/Body Yoga practices, including relaxation and meditation
  • Breathing – just a few minutes sitting quietly using the breath as the focus
  • Sensory awareness – be aware of your surroundings, peaceful ones would be more beneficial.
  • Decrease stimulation – anything that hypes you up
  • An affirmation – a few words or a phrase – all for yourself
  • Care for your own needs, and ask for help when required.

Looking after yourself is not a selfish activity. It is a necessity.

Something else we discussed was having a ‘to be’ list to balance your ‘to do’ list.

Now there’s a thought.
