Retrain your Habitual self

I’ve made an interesting observation, discovery and improvement; and its all thanks to a grumpy knee and learning my own lessons of self observation and being prepared to retrain my habits.

This grumpy knee had been affecting my Sukhasana (Easy pose/Sitting with the legs crossed). The knee couldn’t drop into its usual position without discomfort and pain. I thought it was due to a 3 week holiday throughtout which I had not practiced seated yoga; and that I had to retrain the knee.

Having had this knee issue for 3 months it was a lightbulb moment, a BFO (Blinding Flash of the Obvious) when I noticed that the way I got into bed pinged the pain.

One ought not put one foot on the bed while balancing a book in one hand and a cup of tea in the other and swivel and sit – the knee takes the impact and twists. Knees do not and were not designed to twist – they are a hinging joint.

Lesson learnt – but you need to do something about your lessons. Six weeks retraining so far, book and tea are placed beside the bed; bottom sits on the bed and two legs swing together into bed. No impact on the knee, and not likely to spill the tea either!!!

Be open to BFO’s and learn from your lessons.

I believe you CAN retrain your habitual self.
